OPWAY Engenharia, SA, started operations in January 2008 as a company certified in the following areas:

- Quality - NP EN ISO 9001:2000;
- Environment – NP EN ISO 14001:2004;
- Safety – NP 4397:2008.

The merging of two companies, starting in May and ending in November 2007, revealed what was done best in each firm, bringing all the experience acquired over the years to the new one.

Quality and Environment

OPWAY Engenharia, SA has a quality and environment system compliant with standards NP EN ISO 9001:2008 and NP EN ISO 14001:2004, implemented for civil construction and public works. This system can be found on our intranet, and is accessible to all employees.

The renovation / transition of our certification - NP EN ISO 9001:2008 management qualty system, to construction and public works in ambit of Portuguese system quality, ocurred after audit of renovation / transition made by APCER in Decembre of 2008.
 
The purposes of adopting a management model that covers all OPWAY Engenharia SA’s spheres of business are: to continually improve our management capacity; to train, upskill and motivate human resources, investing in specific training for quality, the environment and safety, in information technologies and production planning and control; to adjust spaces and infrastructures to the requirements inherent to our projects, so as to guarantee the safety and welfare of our employees.

With this model, for which we undertake the commitment to continuous improvement, we also have the fundamental goal of satisfying our customers, and all other interested parties, by implementing routines that promote this satisfaction.

On site, the system is implemented through the Contract Management Plan (CMP), which defines the strategy for implementation of OPWAY Engenharia, SA’s quality and environment management system on site.

Aware of the importance of safeguarding the environment and of its responsibility in that regard during the execution of works (to minimize adverse impacts from its activity on the environment), OPWAY Engenharia SA systematically surveys its chief environmental aspects.

For works that require an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), OPWAY Engenharia SA always takes the measures recommended in the Environmental Impact Study (EIS), in the Report on Compliance with the Final Design (RECAPE) and in the Declaration of Environmental Impact (DEI).

The environmental risk aspects are then identified and the environmental impacts they may provoke can thus be controlled.

Bearing in mind that for an environmental management system to be properly implemented there has to be a sound knowledge of current law on the issue as it applies to our business sector, OPWAY has acquired software to monitor the applicable law. This is available in all workplaces, via the Intranet.

Today, OPWAY Engenharia SA  continues to guide the efforts of the quality and environment team towards a more comprehensive integration of subcontractors and suppliers, through greater involvement, accountability and participation in the implementation of quality and environment management systems in OPWAY Engenharia SA’s works.

To be assured of success in this new objective, OPWAY Engenharia SA is promoting awareness-raising and training actions on all its works sites for the subcontractors, and undertaking inspections of certain subcontractors.

Environmental training is the first tool, designed to give employees knowledge essential for this area. This training is meant for employees of OPWAY Engenharia SA and those of its subcontractors. It covers environmental legislation, environmental audits, environmental aspects of building materials, the waste production cycle, and so forth.
